Getting married is supposed to be one of the best days of your life. You are committing yourself to the person that you love and with that should come nothing but happiness. However, the fact that this is one of the most important days of your life means that you want it to be perfect and for everyone involved to see it as a special day. With this pressure can often come stress and a wedding day is such a concoction of emotions already that you don’t want to throw any more into the mix.
The good news, though, is that you can take steps to minime or possibly eliminate stress altogether. So, here are my top tips on having that stress-free wedding day that you’ve always wanted:
1) GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP
Make sure that you get your full 8 hours sleep the night before your wedding. Being tired on the day means that it is more likely even small inconveniences could add to your stress
2) ORGANISE YOURSELF THE NIGHT BEFORE
Before you head to bed though make sure that everything is prepared for your wedding day. Lay out your dress, shoes and accessories. Make sure that all the labels are cut off your items and you could do this for the bridesmaids as well. This can also make the photographers job much easier as everything is prepared for them so they won’t be asking you where so and so is. Also if you are doing your own make up then make sure that you have this all laid out ready for your big day as well.
Even though you may feel too anxious or nervous to eat anything make sure that you have a good breakfast to start the day off right (I’m sorry that that sounded like a Special K advert, but it really is true). Have something like fruit and granola so that you are well fuelled. Also eat throughout the day to keep that hunger at bay (hey, that rhymes). If you are like me then you’ll get hangry and this can lead to irrational loss of temper and if you combine this with a lack of sleep then it’s not a good mixture.
4) HIRE A WEDDING DAY CO-ORDINATOR
You have enough going on on your wedding day without having to worry about timings or what’s happening next. I recommend that you use a ‘day of co-ordinator’ as they can make the day run smoothly and you can just concentrate on actually getting married.
5) DELEGATE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN
Remember there are only 2 of you. You can’t organise everything on the day, so make sure that you get help from friends and family. Assign different people certain jobs but make sure that you trust them to do that job properly as otherwise you could just add extra stress to the day.
6) TALK TO PEOPLE
You aren’t the first couple ever to get married. Talk to friends, family, work colleagues, random strangers on the street (on second thoughts don’t do that last one) about what they were worried or stressed about on their wedding day and how they dealt with it or how they wished they’d dealt with it. Even though there are only 2 people getting married they are lots of people around you who would be more than happy to support you.
7) REMEMBER WHAT THE DAY’S REALLY ABOUT
This is a simple one but probably the most important. At the end of the day (I’m starting to sound like a footballer being interviewed) your wedding day isn’t about the dresses that your bridesmaids are wearing or if your floral decorations are perfect, it’s about the fact that two people are declaring their love for each other in front of those who mean the most to them. If you keep this in mind then everything else will seem insignificant and just a nice to have.
So go and get married, go and have fun and most importantly of all…don’t get stressed!
